Is Freddie still in the pipeline please
Hi,
I’m so sorry this has taken so long, I took a three year break to get my law degree, which I graduated from this summer, so yes, Freddie is now back underway, and all things being equal I would like to think I could be ready to release it for Christmas next year.
Thank you so much for your patience, sorry life got in the way a little.
Regards
Sara
Hello,
This is my first time contacting an author directly about a book. I have thoroughly enjoyed your series so far and love the characters. I was wondering if you have any idea yet when Freddie will be published? After this year it would be so nice to immerse myself once again in your fantasy world. Thank you.
Hi there,
Its lovely to hear from you and I'm so glad you've enjoyed getting to know my ink and paper friends.
Freddie is underway, but its very slow going (sorry ?). I have a full time job that actually managed to get busier and more time consuming over the pandemic and my job has also required me to do a law degree, which I'm in the middle of, so I've had very little time to write (or breath! ? ). My law degree will be over next summer and I'm hoping to then get Freddie finished by the end of next year. Freddie is my favourite (don't tell the others ? ) so I very much want to do him justice, but I'm sorry you're having to wait.
Kind Regards
Sara
Any updates on Freddie?
P.S. you’re the best
Hi,
Great to hear from you. I’ve taken a short hiatus from writing as I am currently doing a law degree while doing my full-time job and that doesn’t leave me much time. Although one of the positives of Coronavirus lockdown has been a slightly quieter life, so I have actually a few more chapters down. My law degree finishes next summer at which point I will put the big push in to finish Freddie as quickly as possible. I know that people are waiting and I do feel guilty about it. Please know that any spare time I have is given to Freddie, it’s just that I don’t currently have much free time so it’s a slow process.
Apologies for the late reply, your message seemed to go into my spam folder!.
Kind regards
Sara
I’m in isolation with the corona virus, so I bought Eleanor and read it in 2 days, I promptly bought Will. And read that. Today I bought Amelia, sadly I’ve just finished it. Please, is a Freddie being published soon...?.that army is getting closer..
Hi,
Great to hear from you. I’m so delighted that the Five have been good company during isolation. I’ve taken a short hiatus from writing as I am currently doing a law degree while doing my full-time job and that doesn’t leave me much time. Although one of the positives of Coronavirus lockdown has been a slightly quieter life, so I have actually a few more chapters down. My law degree finishes next summer at which point I will put the big push in to finish Freddie as quickly as possible (you’re right, that army is nearly upon them!). I know that people are waiting and I do feel guilty about it. Please know that any spare time I have is given to Freddie, it’s just that I don’t currently have much free time so it’s a slow process.
Apologies for the late reply, your message seemed to go into my spam folder!.

I have just finished Amelia and of course I loved it just as much as the both Eleanor and Will. Crying, Laughing, and My ever growing love for the characters increasing with each page. I was wondering if you had any plan of action for Freddie yet because I can not keep my hands of your books and cannot wait for the next one! Thank you - Charlie
Hi Charlie,
How lovely to hear from you! I'm so glad you enjoyed Amelia, it was a painful one for me to write. I cried quite a few tears myself.
I do have a plan for Freddie, but the plan for Freddie is a little different from the others and I want to write the last book, Conlan, with it, as they are sort of two halves of the same bit of the story, this is proving to be complex.
I am working on it, however, I started a new job in June this year, so going has been slow while I got up to speed, but I'm planning to be able to give it my full attention again as of January 2019, but it could still take 12 months or so for me to finish. On the plus side you should have less time to wait for the last book, which seemed like a fair trade off. I'm sorry I'm not the fastest writer in the world, I take solace from the fact that I am still faster than George R.R. Martin! I appreciate your kind words and your support and hope the wait won't be too much of a stress.
Kind regards
Sara
Greetings Sara from Arizona. The last time I wrote to you, about how much we were all going to miss your books, you told me you had too many irons in the fire and it wasn’t possible to continue the series for a while. I hope that your husband has recoverd from his illness! I also hope that your move, new job, and your many fur babies are doing great. I just received a note from Amazon that you are going to release Amelia in December. What a great Christmas ????. Thank you Sara for working this book into your busy life. I can’t wait to read it. Please take good care of yourself.
Sherry
Dear Sherry,
Thank you SO much for your kind words and thoughts. I am blessed to have just wonderful readers.
Things have been tough for the last few years, but we are now heading back towards some level of normality (or at least what passes for normality in our world!). I passed all the many qualifications demanded by my job this year so that has calmed down a little too ????Writing Amelia has been a cleansing and relaxing experience, it's strange but its as if my characters have helped me through. My husband and furry babies are all good and we are looking forward to Christmas.
Merry Christmas to you and yours Sherry, I hope Amelia can bring you some of the pleasure she has brought me in writing about here. Hopefully, the next book, (Freddie) won't take me quite as long to complete ????
Happy Reading
Sara
Can't wait for next in series, so much so that I've re-read Eleanor and will, when will the next instalment be out please
Hi there,
I'm delighted to hear that you are anxiously waiting book 3. 'Amelia' is currently with the editor, I expect to get it back at the beginning of October 🙂 there will then be some 'backwards and forwards' between the editor and myself as we hammer each line until we are both happy with it. At the same time we will be sorting out the cover design with the illustrator.
We are planning on having a pre-order available on Amazon at the beginning of Nov with the intention of launching at the beginning of December. An early present for the holidays 🙂
Thank you for your enquiry, I hope this information explains the process for you 🙂 Amelia will be with you soon, we are working hard to make it as perfect as we can.
Happy reading,
Sara
Do you have a release date for Amelia
Hi,
Thanks for the question.
I feel I should apologise up front for the 'messing' that's been involved in my release dates for Amelia.
I have a schedule that I work too, as because of my day job I am only able to put dedicated time into writing at weekends, this is very tightly controlled. I had it all planned, had booked the editor and then I moved house, got a promotion at my day job and got a puppy. In hindsight doing all this one after the other while trying to write 10,000 words every weekend was over stretching myself. It all became too much and I had a bit of a meltdown. My day job and the puppy couldn't give, the only thing that could give me some breathing time was my release date. I felt quite sick doing it, especially as am well over half way through the book and it was turning out really well, but I didn't want to jeopardise the integrity of the book by doing a rushed or half-arsed job.
I now have a new schedule that's giving me a little bit longer to write, so I can do half the number of words at the weekend and spend the rest of the time walking with my dog and keeping up with my day job. Some of the anxiety has gone and I feel a little more relaxed, which is actually helping with the writing and it's flowing more.
I've learnt my lesson however and won't be making anymore 'release' announcements until the first draft has gone to the editor!
I'm sorry for the messing, I really appreciate my fans, I don't want to let them down, but on this occasion my mental health came first.
I promise, when the book goes to the editor I shall be sending a mail shot out giving more accurate dates, thank you so much for waiting and for caring.
Kind regards
Sara
Hey! I have read both Eleanor and Will and loved the both! The more I read the more I fell in love with all the characters. Only now I want to fall more in love with them. I know you probably get this question all the time and are sick of answering, but I just need to know when Amelia will come out! I don't need an exact date just a broad answer. A month, season, or even a year will do! Thank you so much writing these amazing books!
Hi
You're right, this is a popular question 🙂 Not least because I have taken a little longer writing Amelia than I have the other two books due to a house move (wow! that can suck up your time) and some important travelling that needed to be done.
However I am now working hard towards completing Amelia. I am hoping to have a first draft to send to be editor by the end of the summer and should have an edited, completed copy I'm happy with and ready to publish by early 2017 at the very latest 🙂
kind regards
Sara
When Will Amelia be released, and will it be released on Kindle as well as paperback.
Hi - Thank you for the question.
Due to my recent house move the release of 'Amelia' has slipped slightly. When I start writing again properly (without workmen and deliveries to organise 🙂 ) I will assess it and make a formal announcement but I think it will be published in Spring next year.
It will be available on the Kindle and in paperback.
Thanks
Kind regards
Sara
When is Amelia coming out?
Thanks for the question!. We should have an announcement soon about the release date for Amelia, and will post all the details to our Mailing list/Facebook/Website as soon as we can!.
Just loved Eleanor, Will broke my heart. Could not put either book down. Great reads. When will Amelia be ready for us to devour?
Hi there,
I'm so glad you're enjoying the books, (Will made me cry when I was writing it!) and thank you for the question.
Amelia is all planned out and I start the writing this coming weekend. However, I also have a full-time day job and I'm going to be moving house at some point in the next few months, so my writing will be on a very, very tight schedule 🙂
I will be keeping everyone up-to-date with the progress milestones with the Facebook page and the Mydren newsletter, so that everyone knows what's going on but I'm hoping to be done (250,000 words later!) by September this year, for proof reading and editing, then aiming to publish in December this year.
I promise I'm typing as fast as I can, and I'm really looking forward to getting Amelia's story down, she's a lot more interesting than many people suspect 🙂
Thanks for reading and thank you again for your question.
Kind regards
S.F. Burgess
Just a bit of a fun question! If you were going to make a film of The Five, who would you cast as Eleanor, Will, Amelia, Freddie and Conlan? Loved Eleanor - couldn't put it down! Can't wait to get stuck into Will!!
Hi there,
Wow! Way to get my brain thinking in the morning!
I have always had images of the characters in my head, no actors look exactly like them, but some actors have the right sort of traits.
Jensen Ackles has a great way of showing a tough yet vulnerable person, (plus I think he's very cute 🙂 ) but perhaps he's too 'pretty' for Conlan?
Will is older, but rather handsome, I always saw him as looking a little like Jason Lewis, but maybe he's too young...?
Freddie has a wonderfully animated face, full of smiles. Cuba Gooding jr springs to mind, but he might be a little too old.
Amelia is delicate but strong, like Anne Hathaway, but with grey eyes.
Eleanor... oh Eleanor... I have no idea, really, her physical attributes were influenced by a friend of mine, maybe we will need to do a special 'Search for Eleanor' competition on TV before they make the movie! 🙂
I've just read through this response and it implies I've given this WAY too much thought, but just the thought of a movie leaves my mind blank and my palms sweaty and I suspect a professional casting person could do a far better job than me 🙂
A movie.... That would be ... amazing... and you totally made my day with just the thought that it might one day be possible. Enjoy Will!
Happy Reading

Thanks for the question, I hope my answer was what you were looking for 🙂
Are you planning any more books after Will? Will there be 5 in all?
Absolutely LOVED Eleanor and can't wait for more!
Thanks,
Mara
Hi there Mara,
It's lovely to hear from you and I'm so happy you enjoyed 'Eleanor', I hope you love 'Will' too.
Yes, the plan at the moment is five books in the series 'Amelia' is next, then 'Freddie' and 'Conlan'.
Should keep you going for a few years 🙂
Thank you for your support,
Happy reading,
Sara
Do you know when Will will be published
Thanks for the question. 'Will' is due to be published in December, we hope to have locked-down a specific date and have a Pre-order available on Amazon in the next week or so. If you haven't already, please sign-up to our Newsletter or on Facebook as we'll let everyone know as soon as we know more.
Is there going to be a continuation of the Eleanor story or is that a one off??
Thanks for the question. I'm in the process of writing the second book, 'Will', at the moment.
I'm hoping to publish it in Late 2014, it's a slightly flexible timescale currently, but I should be able to nail it down a little as we get closer to it.
Keep checking back to the Mydren website and sign-up for our Newsletter to be one of the first to know further details.
Hi there I had to read a fantasy book for my class and do book report on it do you think it would be suitible for me to do a book report on it it's for 12-13 year olds .
Hi,
Thank you for your interest and your questions regarding "Eleanor".
I must express concern firstly at an 12 year old reading the book and secondly at your intention to use it in a book review. "Eleanor" was never written for a younger audience and I would always recommend parental consent as many of the themes are very adult in nature.
If your parents have allowed you to read this book, then that is their choice. However, using this book in a book review in a school environment removes that choice from the parents of your classmates. I would suggest finding something more suitable to your age range.
Regards,
SF Burgess.
Could you please tell me whether Eleanor would be suitable for my 11 year old daughter? She is a very advanced reader, but would the content suitable? Thanks.
(I did try and ask this question on Twitter @InMydren but in spite of being quite techie, I clearly don't understand Twitter!).
Hi there,
Thank you for your question. I was aiming for 14+ age level with "Eleanor", while the violence is sporadic and totally plot based there is some. However, nothing worse than you would find in Harry Potter and the plot required one sex scene where the act is not described in detail, merely alluded to. If you want, I can direct message you on twitter with where this scene is if you would like to check it out in advance. Or you could just read the book.:)
Kind Regards,
S. F. Burgess.
When will your next book be published?
Thanks for the question 🙂
I'm in the process of writing the second book, 'Will', it at the moment.
I'm hoping to publish it in Late 2014, it's a slightly flexible timescale currently, but I should be able to nail it down a little as we get closer to it.
I hope to have a first draft by spring 2014, then it will be time to proofread and editing.

What was your motivation for writing Eleanor ?
Eleanor is a culmination of many years of writing. Her story grew slowly from various different inspirations and ultimately a dream I had 14 years ago when Eleanor came to me and spoke the opening line of her book. Her story has been with me ever since, and I refined it to the point it is at now.
